I've just found out that Handel, composer of classics such as The Messiah, sometimes played the organ at services in the local church of St Lawrence, Whitchurch Lane, Stanmore.
Handel worked as a resident composer between 1717 and 1720 for the Duke of Chandos.
The Duke of Chandos lived an opulent lifestyle at his manor house "Canons" which has since been demolished but is now the site of the North London Collegiate.
Handel's most notable compositions whilst employed by the Duke are "The Chandos Anthems and Te Deum" and what is often regarded as the first English oratorio, "Esther".
The organ used by Handel has recently been restored to it's former glory by the specialist organ builders Goetze and Gwynn of Worksop.
If anyone knows of any other well-known composers or musicians who were born in or have connections with Middlesex, I would be delighted to hear from you.
